Study on runner manufacturing technology
In 2010, the Institute for Hydraulic Fluid Machinery had been asked to carry out a study on alternative technologies of runner manufacturing. The study aimed at the detection of alternative technological concepts for runners and their manufacturing for applications in the paper industry.
Possible new technologies should provide runners which are distinctly resistant against abrasion and corrosion and withstand temperatures up to 80°C. In-house manufacturing as well as copy protection had to be possible.
The focus of the study was put on (cast-) material , mineral casting, polymer materials as well as various (special) coatings. Numerous pump manufacturers for similar abrasive applications and also manufacturers of metallic, ceramic and non-metallic coatings were included into the study.
Finally, realistic options for the manufacturing of runners were compared and evaluated, and proposals for the realisation of specific alternatives were developed.
