Development of hydraulics for a vertical Kaplan turbine
In summer 2010, hydraulics for a vertical Kaplan turbine with the nominal parameters Qmax = 16m³/s, Hdesign = 3m and n = 115rpm have been developed.
The design of the machine according to operational data is based on numerical flow simulations for the step-by-step optimisation of the guide vane and runner blade design developed. The spiral and draft tube geometries were made available by the customer and were later modified in order to reach the highest possible top efficiency level.
Additionally, a flow-and-pressure-coefficient efficiency shell has been calculated which enables the conversion and the scaling of the hydraulics for other power plant applications with similar specific speeds. The power plant went to line in 2011, and since then it produces environmentally friendly/green electricity from hydropower.
